Vampire Capy

A fill-in worksheet for your tell me about yourself answer: where you are now, how you got here, one proud result, what you want next, and a checklist.

Build your answer in ten minutes

This worksheet helps you write a short answer to "tell me about yourself" in your own words. Fill in the blanks with things that are true. Nothing here is written for you, and nothing needs to be memorized word for word.

The guide behind it is how to answer tell me about yourself. Sources are linked there.

Step 1: Where you are now

Write one or two lines. Your current role, your studies, or the situation you are in, plus one true thing you do or have done well.

Right now I am ______, where I ______.

Step 2: One step that explains how you got here

Pick one earlier step, not all of them. Choose the one that makes the next part make sense.

Before that I ______, which taught me ______.

Step 3: One thing you are proud of

Choose a specific result or moment, then say why it mattered to you. It can come from work, school or outside both.

One thing I am proud of is ______, because ______.

Step 4: What you want next, for this job

Name the skill, team or problem that drew you to this role. Change this line for every interview. If you cannot fill it in honestly, that is a sign to look closer at the role.

I am looking for ______, and this role caught my attention because ______.

Step 5: Put it together and trim

Read your four lines in order. Cut any sentence that would make the interviewer say "I already saw that on the resume." Keep it to about a minute, with two minutes as a ceiling.

Checklist before the interview

- Every sentence is true and I can back it up if asked.

- I say the present first or the past first, and I stick to that order.

- The last line names something specific about this role.

- I can say it out loud without reading it.

- It is about a minute long, and under two.

- I left a little unsaid so there is something to ask me about.

If your answer feels flat, change the achievement line first. A specific example usually does more than another adjective.
